Today’s Thrifty Ramblings
I have a bunch of stuff rattling around in my mind and thought I’d let you in my little world. :)
I had to fill up with gas today. It’s $3.25/gallon!!! :sigh:
I stopped at another discount grocery store we have here. This one isn’t as nice as the one across town, but I picked up a few things. The store also carries some clearanced out Kohl’s clothing. Today I picked a fleece jacket for my daughter and a Thomas the Train robe for my son. Each were $2.99. I know it’s hard to imagine buying winter stuff when it’s so warm outside, but this is one of the things that saves me so much money.
Lowe’s Foods finally has more of the reusable bags in stock. I mentioned them a few weeks ago and they’ve been out ever since. Did you folks go and buy them all???? lol I had about 2800 pts, so I used 2500 pts to buy 2 more bags. Now I have 4 bags. As I said before, these bags hold a lot more than regular plastic bags. Each time I take these bags back to Lowe’s Foods, I’ll earn another 200 pts (50 pts/bag). Hopefully, if I get one more bag, I won’t have to use plastic anymore. “Oh happy day . . . ”
Don’t forget about the poll to the right. :)
It is so stinkin’ hot that we’ve had to turn on the a/c. :( Next week it’s supposed to be a bit cooler though. I like it when we don’t need any heat or air.
I’m making chicken parmesan for supper tonight. I need to share that recipe with you all sometime.
Well, I have a ton of newspapers to go through so I better go. What are you up to today? Do you have any plans for this weekend?

The AC? Oooh, I’m jealous, we’re still using heat where I am.
And you’re right… gas is ridiculous! One of the benefits of blogging is no more commute. CHA - ching!

I think that reusable bag/points system sounds really cool. I wish we had something like that up here! We’re going to a free night at the YMCA tonight and doing stuff around the house over the weekend. I am so jealous about the weather - we’ll have snow again on Sunday!!

It’s supposed to turn cooler again next week. I’m glad. 80 degrees is just too hot for April. I’m a fan of 60 degrees.

I love the idea of points for re-using bags! Trader Joe’s offers you a raffle ticket when you bring in your own bags but the Giant doesn’t offer any incentive, at least not that I am aware of.

The snow here is still melting but we’re glad to see the grass anyway.
That chicken parmesan sounds good. Do share sometime. I love reading how people cook things and picking up ideas.
We have no big plans but there is a lot of crap to clean up now that the snow has melted. I might hit a couple thrift stores, search for some good used books and rifle through ones I’m finished with to trade in.

Gas is $3.78 a glaaon where I live. Can you believe it? Our gas bill was $661 last month…ouch. I know it will be far worse this month.

Gas is insanely high. I’m glad only one of us commutes to work. My son and I go hardly anywhere lately. :( I have to plan all our errands for one day during the week.
Speaking of reusable bags, I’m a fan of Target’s folding bags. They fold up small enough to keep anywhere, but get bigger than any reusable bag I’ve seen. 3 of them hold almost all my groceries for two weeks.

We really don’t have anywhere that uses reusable bags except WM but I don’t get any credit for it. I think I am getting ripped off!

Angela: Gas prices sure do make it hard for a family to survive. I think back to when I was just out of high school and making $4.25/hour. Gas was only about .88 to .97/gallon. I don’t know how people today who are making minimum wage afford to drive to work.

Lindsey - I have one of Target’s reusable bags, but I’m not all that fond of it. I purchased the one that was .99. It doesn’t stand up on it’s own and it doesn’t hold as much as the bags that Lowe’s Foods sells for the same price. I do like that the Target bags zips up. It stores away nicely in my purse or other small place in my van.

I have some reusable bags that I bought at Wal-Mart. I use one for everyday carrying my lunch and papers back and forth to work. Hehe! People around here look at me funny when I bring my own bags in. They look at me like, “What am I supposed to do with this?” It’s kind of frustrating actually.
Someone suggested getting the Meijer reusable bags because they have a slot for a two-liter and have the board in the bottom for more sturdiness. They are UGLY though. I mean, bright blue? Seriously. Even navy blue would be better. Green, black. But bright blue? Ick!
Ugh, gas here has been $3.45-3.50. It’s insane! I nearly refuse to fill up my tank hoping that the price will go down, only, it keeps climbing.
Ooo, I’d really like to see your recipe too.
