Thrifty Wedding Cake

by Karen on June 18th, 2007

fake cakeYou may remember me telling you a few weeks ago that the average wedding costs $28,000.  I came across some information that is interesting and may also help some people save money on their wedding.

Renting a cake can save you up to 50% on the price of your wedding cake.  Click here for more details.  Tell me . . . have you ever heard of renting a cake?  I haven’t.  And now if I go to a wedding and they wheel the cake to the back for cutting, I’ll always be wondering if it was real.  lol

To cut costs on wedding cake, some people rent a fake cake.  Basically, you can rent a beautiful, multitiered pretend cake for show while serving guests slices from a real, tasty and inexpensive sheet cake.

There was an article in our local paper about this very topic last week. I hadn’t heard about it until then. It seems like a great idea. They even put in one little real slice of cake so the bride and groom can “cut” the cake and serve it to each other. The guests never know!

You beat me to it! I saw it too and thought it was an interesting concept. I still didn’t spend anywhere near what they are asking for you to rent the cake on our wedding cake. So I am not sure how much it saves you. Besides, you still have to buy the sheet cake.

Wow, never heard of that! Wouldn’t it be funny if someone accidently cut the posh cake lol
