Thrifty Valentine’s Day gifts from the man in your life

by kellys on February 7th, 2007

Valentine's DayValentine’s Day is coming up and I am wondering what my DH is gong to do for the special occasion. Probably not a lot as I have to admit that Valentine’s Day is my least favorite holiday. I never understood why everyone gets so lovey-dovey on a day when they are told to do so. If my DH wants to do something romantic for me, then I would like for it to be spontaneous.

Having said that – let me give you men out there a few frugal tips on Valentine’s day gifts that are sure to b e a huge hit with the little wife.

  1. Don’t give her a vacuum. Do give her a maid for a month so that she can rest easy when you take her out, knowing that she will come home to a clean house.
  2. Don’t expect and demand Valentine’s Day romance when you go to bed. Talk to her and romance her with words and actions while leaving your hands to yourself. (not bashing here) By the time you get ready for bed, having romanced her all day long will entice her to be romantic back without feeling obligated.
  3. Leave little notes around all day. If the dishes need to be unloaded that morning, leave a note just inside the top rack for her to find. If Valentine’s Day is her day to do laundry, leave a single rose on the washing machine with a note that says “Just because”
  4. How about a Valentine’s Day card in the seat of the car for her to find when she takes the kids to school? That would be a nice surprise.
  5. A GUARANTEED SUCCESS – do something sweet for a few days before and a few days after to remind her of how lucky you are. She will appreciate the fact that it wasn’t just for the one day you are supposed to be nice.

Ladies, this doesn’t just have to go from him to you. You, too, can be soft and romantic without spending a fortune. How about a foot massage after the kids go to bed? Or a round of golf with the guys? He would appreciate those things without feeling guilty for asking. Just an idea.

So from Thrifty Mommy to you, have a happy Valentine’s Day and enjoy the one you love.
