Thrifty Anniversary ideas for this thrifty mommy

by kellys on February 7th, 2008

My 10 year anniversary is coming up and I have a long list of things I want for my anniversary.  But true to form, you might be surprised as to what is on it.  So, I am hoping you are reading this, DH, so you don’t have to guess as to what I want, or don’t want.

  • Let’s celebrate on the weekend.  During the week is too busy and I am too tired since your son is still waking up every 3 hours at night.
  • Please take me out for dinner.  Applebee’s or that new Mexican restaurant will be perfect.  Dinner for $20 or less sounds great to me.
  • No movie please.  I would rather sleep the extra 2 hours that I can’t talk to you.
  • Can MM watch the kids and we go to Lowe’s or Home Depot?  I don’t care where we go as long as it is quiet and we can talk.  I don’t even want to spend any money.  I just love those 2 stores but you already knew I was weird.
  • Maybe see if the contractor can just give us a date as to when he can start on the trim work.  A start date is free.
  • What about a walk at the park if it is still warm?  We haven’t done that in a while.
  • When we get home, can we just watch the kids sleep for a while?  They look so peaceful and I am so blessed to have you and them in my life.
  • Please don’t buy me flowers.  They just die and then I have to clean them up.

A card would be nice but I would rather dinner and holding hands again.

I love you and just thought I would give you a few hints as to what I would love.  Care to give me some ideas?

On our anniversary, we always go somewhere that we normally don’t go (such as the Japanese restaurant). Yummy!

For Christmas, I told G that I wanted some work done (or finished!!!) around our house. :) hahaha

I just had to tell you that my hubby and I have been married 29 years and our traditional anniversary celebrations have been to go out to eat with a 2-for-one coupon and then visit the hardware store.

It’s become somewhat of a family legend. Our 7 children laugh at us but the 2 married ones are carrying on our thrifty ways.

    I loved this post!

For our anniversary, I often feed the kids early and get them in bed. Then, we order takeout Chinese and eat by candlelight. After dinner, we play a game together while the food settles. Most of the time we celebrate Valentine’s and our anniversary with takeout Chinese food because that’s what we had for our first Valentine’s dinner and on our wedding night. It makes the whole finding a sitter problem easier, too.
