Thrifting Experiences
Have you ever been out thrifting and just couldn’t find anything? Last week, this happened to me. My husband and I were out eating breakfast alone. I was pretty excited by this because I don’t think we’ve had a breakfast date since the kids were born. Anyway, I asked my hubby if we could stop at the Good Will down the street.
I was so excited. I went into Good Will with high expectations. I was expecting to find a bunch of kid’s clothes for $1 each. I was really needing some winter clothes for my daughter since she is outgrowing almost everything.
Unfortunately, I was really disappointed at Good Will. The children’s clothing rack said that the clothes were $3 each. Come on, really? Three dollars each? I only give $3 for a new J. Khaki shirt at Belk. I guess I wouldn’t really mind giving $3 if the clothes were in really good condition.
Since I didn’t find anything, I moved along to the rest of the store. I stumbled upon some other things that were really overpriced. I found 2 styrofoam coolers that were pretty old and beat up. They were $4 each! I could be wrong, but don’t those coolers only cost about $4 new? I think my hubby and I were only in there for about 10 minutes. I was so disappointed.
Fortunately, it was a beautiful day and I spotted a yard sale sign. We stopped at the yard sale and I got a boy’s jacket for $1, a girl’s shirt with tags for $1, and a few other things. I only spent $3.50. I got a few good bargains, but not nearly what I was hoping to get that day.
Have you ever had a bad or disappointing thrifting experience? Perhaps you’ve had a super deal day. Tell us about it.

Yes, that’s my normal experience with Goodwill. Only in Raleigh did I find a Goodwill with clothes good enough to be worth the prices they wanted. That was only because it was located near a rich neighborhood! I’m glad that we have at least 3 other thrift stores in my area!

I’ve had some good and bad GoodWill experiences. I guess they’re about an even split. Last summer I went in there and they had a big bin of children’s clothes labeled $1 each. I got my little boy a bunch of winter clothes for $1 each. A few pieces still had the tags on them. The Good Will where we used to live only charged $1.50 for their children’s clothes, so I’m not sure why the one here had $3 each on theirs. Anyway, based upon the prices on many items, I couldn’t figure out why there were so many people in there shopping. It just wasn’t worth it to me.
