Success at the consignment sale
So I went to my biannual consignment sale yesterday. I cheated adn went on the 40% off day. My girlfriend went with me and we had a ball. I made her day when I was the ultimate cheapskate. I went with the specific goal of matching tops and bottoms with what I already had. I evidently have this fetish of tops and bottoms matching. There was a cute pair of pink shorts that were only 60 cents. I left them because I didn’t have a good top to go with it. She laughed so hard that she got a stitch in her side. I stuck to my goals and felt good about leaving the shorts. I got Turkey Butt:
- A pair of Columbia sandals (theses were the most expensive at $7)
- 2 pairs of Stride Rite sandals
- A pair of No Boundary black church shoes
- A pair of dress up shoes
- 2 shirts
- 1 pair of shorts
Little Man didn’t need anything so he wasn’t an issue. I left 3 BEAUTIFUL outfits that, if they are still there on Sunday, my girlfriend will pick up for me. They will be reasonably priced then. I only spent $27 so I was happy. Don’t forget that the one pair of Columbia sandals were $7. There isn’t even any wear on the bottoms so I felt OK with the price. I am happy.

You don’t feel weird buying used shoes? It seems popular to buy used shoes for kids but it kinda grosses me out to put my kids feet into used shoes. What’s your thoughts?

I’m pretty picky about used shoes myself. But the shoes I got look brand new. Every once in a while, I will get a pair of play shoes but I don’t usually buy shoes used. They gross me out too! But kids grow out of them so fast that I can usually find brand new shoes with no tred gone. Those are the ones I usually get.

i too, have bought “used” shoes for children. i think you’ll find alot of times what are classified as used may have never been worn. since my children have an overabundance of clothes/shoes (i love to shop but am very very frugal and get tons for pennies), there are times when i’ve bought something and the kids never even wore them…therefore considered used but never even worn!!!!). i totally agree with kellys….they grow so fast it’s hardly worth paying $30 for a pair of shoes that may last a month.

I also went ot hte used baby store at my MIL’s and got Turkey Butt 7 outfits for less than $30. I know that was over my $3.50-$4 limit for an outfit, but that was when she was in all-in-ones. I still strive for that but I have to be reasonable if I am not yardsaling.
