Space Bags are Worth the Money

by Karen on August 7th, 2007

It seems with every house we live in, there is not enough closet space and there is never enough room for our blankets and sheets.  In one house we lived in, I bought some under the bed storage containers.  They helped to find a space for our things, but the containers allowed dust to get on our stuff and I had to wash everything before I could use it.

Now we have the problem of our hall closet bulging with blankets and sheets.  I had to get on a step stool to put more blankets in the closet and even then, I had to cram them in.  When I would pull out a blanket that I needed, many more would come tumbling down on my head.  Then I had to get out the step stool again.  It was so frustrating.

I have been noticing the Space Bags at Wal-Mart and Target.  I have wondered if they worked well and if they were worth the money.  Last night I’d had enough!  I went to Target and bought a 3 pack of large bags for $12.99.

I brought the bags home and got to work.  I was able to fit about 8 blankets into the 3 bags, plus a few bed skirts and shams.  The bags are laying neatly in my closet now and I have room for more.  I am so thrilled with the results.

Now I need to buy a few of the jumbo bags for our king size stuff.  Today I found a deal on the Space Bags website.  They are offering 7 bags for $19.99, plus shipping and handling.  I wish I had seen this yesterday.

The Space Bags website also has testimals from hurricane victims.  According to the testimonies, the bags keep out water and protect items from water damage.

Do you have problems with storing blankets or seasonal clothing?  Have you tried the Space Bags?

I love space bags! We bought some for our unused blankets, pillows and comforters. What used to take up lots of space now take up inches! I have found that slowly, really slowly, over time, some of the air does seem to find its way back in.

D: Thanks for commenting. I recently gave away a king size comforter and king size sheets to our friends. I put a king size down blanket in my yard sale pile and I’m also getting rid of a king size quilt and shams. I still don’t have enough room. Our house was built in the 60’s before big closets came along. I’m so thankful to have found the space bags!

I bought some and was actually a bit disappointed with their performance. They seemed great at first, but all of them eventually let in air and wouldn’t stay compact like they were at first. It could have been how I handled them or something - hopefully you will have better luck!

I loved them when I first used the vaccume to suck out the air but then they let the air back in as the prior post commented. Also, I purchased some with holes in them from the gate. Silly me didn’t return them to get my money back because I waited so long to use them that I no longer had the receipts and therefore no recourse to get new ones.

Great concept but a bit dissapointed with the final results.

I totally agree. I love mine and save tons of space for my children’s clothes! I save a lot of space and am able to keep loaning out my kids’ clothes. I love it!

I may have to try these out. We don’t have a lot of closet space, either.

I also had problems with mine. Wouldn’t stay sealed and ripped pretty easily and I didn’t overstuff it.

When my husband and I were first married and lived in an apartment- we made homemade space bags using heavy duty garbage bags and it worked well. Now I am fortunate to have 4 walk in closets in just our upstairs alone. The downside is that none of the closets were finished at the time of purchasing the house and so slowly but surely, I am getting them done one at a time.- Michelle

I had the same problem with air getting back in. But, instead of dumping them, I put them under the bed - no dust got in and I still had the storage.

Michelle, how did you get the air out of the garbage bags?
