Shooting at Virginia Tech

by Karen on April 16th, 2007

VA TechI’m sure some of you have heard about the shooting at the Virginia Tech campus this morning.  As of now, 32 people are confirmed dead and many are seriously injured.  Hospitals report that over 20 people are being treated for gunshot wounds.

President Bush is scheduled to speak today at 4:15 p.m.

My husband and I used to live near Virginia Tech.  I taught just a few miles from the campus and on many occasions my husband and I worked at the football games.  We have always thought very fondly of the school.

Please keep all of the students, staff, families, and victims in your prayers.  This may sound strange to some of you, but let’s also pray for the shooter’s family.  They are also experiencing the loss of their son and the shame of his actions.

It is a very sad day. I can’t even imagine all the families affected by the loss.

I am selfishly glad that all the students from our church are ok. We are praying that all involved will be able to deal with this tragedy and that people will come along side them to help in any way needed.

I, too, have a VT connection - as do most of my friends and much of the community. My heart breaks for the VT community, but hope that even with the sadness, shock and horror of it all, they can find the strength and the wisdom to begin the healing process.

It is so sad. Fox News is now listing the names of the known deceased. They also showed a picture of each of them, told their age, and a little about them. There were several professors killed as well. The gunman wrote some very disturbing plays. You can go to http://www.foxnews.com to read them.(http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,266593,00.html) They say the gunman had a note blaming others for his actions. So typical of a killer.
