Thrifty Mommy

Let the Craziness Begin

by Karen on November 19th, 2007

My mom sent my kids a dollar again this month.  It was time for another thrilling trip to Dollar Tree.  As a kid, you know it’s exciting to get to buy something with your own money.

What I couldn’t believe was the traffic we entered upon leaving the house.  There were cars everywhere!  Then, when we came into the Dollar Tree parking lot we experienced the same thing.  I actually had to park 3 rows away from the store.  I was on the phone with Kelly (also of Thrifty Mommy) and was telling her just how crazy it was.

Surprisingly, things became worse when I walked through the doors of the store.  There were no shopping carts to be found.  I’m sorry, but there is no way I am walking through Dollar Tree with a 2 and 4 year old and not have a cart to contain them, well, mainly their hands.  I actually had to go to the registers and wait for a cart.

We tried to maneuver around the store which was difficult.  There were people everywhere.  We couldn’t even squeeze down the toy aisle because the check out line was spread down that aisle.  Thankfully before we left, the check out lanes dwendled down.  It’s a good thing because I was ready to leave empty handed.

I just can’t get over how crowded the stores are already.  Thanksgiving isn’t even here yet.  Are you experiencing the same thing where you live?  If this is the way it’s going to be, maybe I should just pass out cash for gifts.  lol

Hehe I’m doing all my shopping on-line. No stores for me. The ONE time I braved Black Friday, bad things happened. This year, I’m 6 months pregnant, so there’s no way I’m going to fight the crowds (although, I could just pretend to go into labor and people will move out of my way…sneaky, sneaky).

Oh My Goodness!!! I can’t believe all the craziness out there already. I’m a stay-at-home mom and always do my shopping during weekdays. Holiday shopping is already starting to affect my day shopping, which makes me very sad. I hate battling other people in stores because people get so grumpy the more crowded it gets.

i think people are probably just trying to get it all done early this year. i know i am. i’ve gotta get to the dollar store and buy christmas tins (for filling with my home-made cookies and trying to pass it off as a gift) and i’m not looking forward to it. The dollar store can run out of stock early for things people need for the holiday, so maybe that’s another reason it was so packed so early.

Thanks for the warning. I was going to go there to get some drinks for Thanksgiving. YIKES!!! Maybe I’ll send hubby (evil grin)!

I shop 1 day only… Black Friday. Then I am done. So I actually do save money and have a ball doing it.
