Homemade Slime

by kellys on December 6th, 2007

slime.jpgRemember when we were kids and we used to sit at the kitchen table and play with slime?  Nickelodeon does it to a much greater extent but it’s still fun none the less.  But have you priced it at the store lately?  And then once you play with it, it gets filthy!  YUCK!

So here is a recipe for slime that is sure to please your little ones.  It doesn’t store well so play with it the day you make it.  I can’t wait to try it.  My BFF gave it to me with a devious smile so it must be loads of fun.

1 c cornstarch

1/2 c water

several drops of food coloring

Mix ingredients in a large plastic bowl.  Once mixed, grab a  handful of goop and let it squish through your fingers.  You can change the feel of your goop by adding more water or cornstarch.

Have fun!

I LOVE this recipe! I used to make it for my toddlers when I worked at a preschool. They would play with the slimy concoction for hours, and the fact that it is super easy to make and even easier to clean up after play is done makes this an awesome sensory experience for little ones. When it dries it basically turns back into dry cornstarch. You can put in a container with a lid to store for a day or two. Just add water to bring it back to life. Thanks for reminding me about this recipe. I have a 13 month old that might find this fun.

Thank you so much for this recipe! I remember playing with cornstarch slime when I was little and making it for kids when I was a counselor at camp, but I couldn’t remember the recipe. Thanks for reminding me, I can’t wait until my two are old enough for this, I just know they will love it!

That’s a great recipe! I will have to try that with my son during our therapy play! He hades slimy gooey stuff. I’ll hide some pennies in it and see if he tries to touch it.

We make the kind with glue and borax usually. It keeps well. But I want to try this one too. I think my son will love it!!!!

When I was a kid, my friend brought some slime to school. I was having fun and put it down her shirt. She got upset because it stuck to her clothes. I had to sit in the corner for the whole lunch recess. I felt terrible. I’ve never bought slime since.

I’ve been using this all morning with my son. Unfortunately I’m now having difficulty getting it out of my keyboard!
My son thinks it tastes too bland too. Any ideas on how to make it more palatable?
