Thrifty Mommy

Ever wonder …

by kellys on June 10th, 2008

So I am looking out my window this morning and I saw a bird on my back porch.  The little tiny thing was just sitting out and looking for something or just sleeping, I have no idea.  But it’s beautiful red body was kissed by the sun in just the right light so that it looked like a shining red ribbon was wrapped around it’s body.  I was struck by the uniqueness of how the bird looked and I got to thinking.  That little bird never worries where it’s food is going and never wonders why it has to dust it’s nest every week.  It never has to worry about what bills are due today or what the next chore needs to be completed.

So I got to thinking myself.  One of the main goals of Thrifty Mommy is to help you save money.  But the other goal is to help you save time.  No matter how stressed you are about what is coming up in your day today, I want you to know this … Karen’s and my desire is to help you not stress so much.  There are plenty of ways to save money here and there and tuck away a few minutes into your day.  So take advantage of that and then take 5.  We all could use a little time to sit on the back porch, shut our eyes and enjoy the morning sun.  Let the morning light wrap a ribbon of peace around us and just let the breeze of the morning dew take a load off our shoulders for a minute.  There will be plenty of time to get the kids up, dressed, fed, and off to whatever the day holds.  There will be plenty of time to stress over what bill can be paid today. And I am quite sure there will be plenty of time to hear arguments from someone in your household.

So maybe you should just get up minutes earlier tomorrow and sit on your back porch and be still for a few minutes.  That bird looked so peaceful this morning.  We all deserve to have that kind of peace every day.  Even if for just 5 minutes.

Truly wonderful advice. Thank you for the reminder to move a little more slowly and calm down.

Thanks for the post. You know, two years ago when we first got a patio put in I would get up around 6 am, make some coffee and drink it out back. I’m not sure why I stopped doing that (probably because I had a baby) but that was so peaceful. Maybe I’ll go back since Summer is here. Thanks!

I recently purchased a hummingbird feeder just for this reason! Awesome post!

Very funny! I will make sure I have enough coffee and filters this time. Need anything else?
