Cheap phone bill

by kellys on October 17th, 2007

Now that we all have a cell phone, why even have a land line?  My DH and I have had this conversation several times.  The main reason is for 911 access.  If we need it, we want to have it available and our local area does not have 911 access from our cell phones that include location placement.  But that doesn’t mean that you have to pay for everything they want you to.  Keep your land line down by asking what their basic service is.  Our land line has no call waiting, caller ID, etc…  We actually are limited to only 50 outgoing calls a month with no long distance.  Our bill is less than $20/month.  Most of our calls are done from our cell phones anyway.  So remember, the basics of a phone service plan does not have to include the extras or long distance.

FYI… Make sure you don’t get charged for NOT having long distance service as some phone companies are now trying to charge you for not having a long distance carrier.

The moral of the story …  look at your bill each month.  It is not beneath them to try to slip something by you.

We have recently cut our land line completely, since our county doesn’t offer 911 anyway. It’s a bit frustrating that incoming calls eat up my minutes, but I just have to learn how to adjust for that.

I love to buy used everything. It’s so bad now that I won’t buy an infant outfit at a local thrift store for $1.49 because I know I could get something else at the Salvation Army on Wednesdays for 50% off!
My question - for used books…do I need to worry about cleaning them pretty good? I wipe down the hard books, but what about the paperback ones? Do I need to worry about germs or anything. (It’s my first kid, so I know I’m more germ-a-phobic now then I’ll be after 2 kids!)

    Thanks!

I use a VOIP which has 911 capability and it costs about $25 per month with all the bells and whistles. You can call north america and I think Puerto Rico and Canada (don’t call so I’m not sure on the specifics) all included.

I could’ve swore it was required that a land line had to be able to call 911 even without any service.
