Thrifty Hobbies

The following is a guest post.
I started running again the the other day. My workout plan involves running on 5 nights a week between when the kids go to bed and my bedtime. Three of those nights are weekdays. I realized that this could save me some pretty decent money.
Instead of spending money on any […]

A Crazy, Draining, and Profitable Weekend

The last few days have been kind of a big blur.  As most of you loyal readers know, I’ll be moving in just a few weeks.  We are downsizing considerably.  I’ve been going through every drawer, dresser, cabinet, box, and space that I can to declutter and purge the things that we don’t need.
Each time […]

Thriftiness: It’s All About Where You Are

The following is a guest post.
As you read this, my little family and I are preparing for our annual summer treck to Bulgaria, my husband’s homeland. Once hidden behind the iron curtain, Bulgaria and its people have been making adjustment after adjustment to the fall of the Societ Union, to the robbery of its treasury […]

Gardening in a can

As an avid gardener I have found that my love for flowers far out weighs my love for the vegetable garden. As the years have passed my vegetable garden has shrunk from very large to almost non-existent. The thought of pulling, hoeing, weeding, and pest control is no longer my cup of tea. So this […]

Can You Cut Your Expenses?

Each time I turn on the news or open a newspaper, there is information about the rising cost of gas and groceries and people that are struggling to make ends meet.  While there is absolutely nothing I can do about the cost of gas, I can work pretty hard to cut our grocery bill.
Here are some […]

What a blessing for airline tickets

Ok, so I went to the airport and tried to get cheap tickets.  Total failure.  My tickets were averaging $3k.  So I asked United, USAir, and Delta if they have bereavement fairs.  Only United did so my tickets were $1400 for all 4 of us.  That is a great deal for next day tickets.
