Can You Cut Your Expenses?

by Karen on May 14th, 2008

Each time I turn on the news or open a newspaper, there is information about the rising cost of gas and groceries and people that are struggling to make ends meet.  While there is absolutely nothing I can do about the cost of gas, I can work pretty hard to cut our grocery bill.

Here are some of the biggest and easiest ways to save on groceries:

1)  Look through your cabinet and see what you already have.

2)  Sit down and plan your meals using the sales flyer and considering what you already have in your pantry.

3)  Stock up on items that are at rock bottom prices.  This past week, Lowe’s Foods had ground turkey for .99/lb.  I haven’t seen the price that low in a long, long time.  I bought 5 packages and put them in the freezer.

Thrifty Mommy is full of articles on how to save money.  Here are a few of my favorites that are full tips that anyone can use.

I have a general questions. Do most stores accept coupons printed from the computer? My local A&P doesn’t and I wasn’t sure if I should try others.

It’s been my experience that most stores do accept printed coupons, but there are a few exceptions. There are a lot of online coupon sites now, so some stores are beginning to accept them again. The problem is that some people take the time to manufacturer their own fake coupons. Since they’re going through all the trouble, they the coupons for large amounts so that it’s worth their while.

Great ideas on cutting the costs. I will post this afternoon about what we are doing. With gas prices so high, its so hard to even go to the park these days with the fear of how much it will cost. Ugh! Our stores here do accept printed coupons as well. They look at you funny, but they are accepted.
