Be Frugal on Your Fall and Winter Clothing Purchases
Well, it is the time of year again to start switching out our kids’ clothes. I have to admit that I dread it–all the washing, sorting, and putting away. Downstairs I keep totes full of clothes for my kids for the seasons. There are also clothes that are too big them to wear right now.
The clothes that I have stored come from many places - yard sales, consignment stores, clearance racks, and many of my girl clothes were given to me by my wonderful, long-time friend Karen. (Thanks, Karen. :) )
Have you noticed that these clothes all have something in common? Most are used and all were INEXPENSIVE!!!! I actually had the word “cheap” put in there, but I know some of you may not like that word. I LOVE that word!!!!
While you’re sorting through last year’s clothes, trying stuff on, and getting rid of pants that are too short, just remember there are places to find low cost children’s clothing.
I would suggest trying children’s consignment stores for winter clothing deals. Most consignment stores that I have been in are pretty picky about what they accept. The majority of their stuff looks new and you can usually get it for about 25% of what it costs new.
Another great place to try is thrift stores. Try your Good Will and Salvation Army thrift stores. A few months ago I was shopping at Good Will and I got my son some new winter clothes, with tags, for $1.00 each!!! What a deal!!

Of the clothing we purchase for our son, we usually pick it up at a thift store. We also get handme downs from his older cousin. And when it comes to purchasing new clothing for him, we never purchase anything that goes over $5, the exception being outfits with 2 or more pieces and even then we don’t go over $10.

My family laughs at me becasue I have a limit of $3.50 for summer outfits and $6 for winter outfits.

Well, I don’t really have a limit, but I do try to find a really good deal. I don’t like paying more than $3 for an outfit. Sometimes I’ll pay $6 if it’s one of those nice 3 piece outfits from Belk or if it’s something special. I just can’t help but feel guilty if I spend more than that because they only get to wear it a few times.
