Awesome Target Deals & Some Disappointment

by Karen on July 8th, 2008

Alligator got some birthday money in the mail this weekend, so I took her to Target yesterday for the Barbie clothes she’d be wanting.  I’m not sure about all Target stores, but ours marks down their clearance prices on Monday.

I got there just in time.  There were three ladies working on marking down the children’s clothing.  How does ninety-eight cents sound for shirts and shorts?  Here’s what I got:

  • girls’ strawberry shirt .98
  • boys’ soccer t-shirt .98
  • 2 pairs boys’ camouflage shorts .98 (I got one pair for this year and one for next year.)
  • boys’ striped shirt .98

They also had their 4th of July clothing for half price.  I found a solid navy skort for Alligator for $2.  Gotta love a deal!

Alligator got her Barbie clothes and as we were getting ready to leave, we saw a lady from church.  She always gives the kids in the church $5 for their birthdays, so she gave the kids each $5 (Cuddlebug’s birthday is this month too).  They were excited.

princess jewelry set from targetWe traveled back to the toy section and I thought Alligator would get another Barbie outfit or one of their $5 Barbies.  Instead, she chose this Princess jewelry set.  We got it home and I opened it for her.  As I was taking it out of the package, the bracelet fell to pieces all over the floor.  To top that off, the earrings wouldn’t even stay on her ears.  I tried them on mine too to see if her earlobes were just thin and they wouldn’t stay on mine either.  I was so disappointed with this set!  Last night I strung the bracelet back together and this piece of junk is going back to Target.  Thankfully, she’s five and is able to understand that she’ll have to wait to get something else.  I’m glad I still have my receipt.  Oh well.

I’m pleased with our clothing deals.  Have you found any deals lately?

I just picked up a Bike trailer/jogging stroller at Wal-mart in CT for $25 normally over $110!! They were hidden on clearance in the garden section.

Stephanie - thanks for the heads up, I’m going to run to Walmart right now. We’ve been looking for one that is affordable.

Also, good luck returning it to Target. Their return policy is horrendous. I tried returning some clothes that fell apart in the wash the first time I washed them….I had the receipt! They would only exchange them for the EXACT same item…well, it had been a few weeks, and wouldn’t you know the clothes had already been clearanced and they didn’t have my size. I was SOL. I can’t believe they had the audacity to tell a 8 month pregnant woman that there was nothing they could do for her…I wanted to cry….while screaming at all of them ;)

Karen - were they marking down the toddler clothes too, or just the girls/boys? I might have to make a special trip ;) DS is growing out of everything!

Lindsey: At the time I was there, they were marking down the toddler stuff. I’ve been told that my Target marks down all their stuff on Mondays. You can call yours and ask what day they mark it down.

You’re right. Target’s policy is horrible!!!! Too bad you don’t live closer, I have boxes and boxes of clothes that are going into my moving sale.

One time I bought some sheets on clearance at Target. I washed them and tried to put them on my bed. I even got my husband involved b/c it was so tough to get them on the bed. Both of us couldn’t do it b/c they didn’t fit right. It’s been a few years ago, but it seems like I measured them and they weren’t the standard king size sheets, they were smaller. I took them back to Target and they didn’t want to take them back b/c they had been washed. I persisted enough until they finally took them back.

Another time I had issues at my Target. They wouldn’t take back a Christmas present that my daughter had received. The next week I was visiting my parents and I took the item back to their Target with no problems. I guess it depends upon who is working that day.

Karen - I was actually almost thrown out of the store because I was hassling the manager so much. ;) Oops. I’ll blame preggo hormones.

As far as the bike trailer went - I searched high and low and found two. One was just a bike trailer and the other was a jogger/trailer. Both were HORRIBLY packaged and not even marked. It took an hour and a half to track down the prices because apparently they were supposed to go back to corporate. Finally, they told me that the trailer was 78 and the jogger was 109. :( I tried making a deal because the boxes were so beat up and because they weren’t even supposed to be in the store…but no go. I think I’ll go later and check the dumpsters….they might throw them away.

Oh well. Time to check craigslist and consignment shops!

Lindsey: That’s one good thing about being a blogger - when stores give you the run around you can do something about it. At least you get to write about it here.

It’s ridiculous that Wal-Mart wouldn’t give you a better price!

I checked the dumpster…nothing yet. Thankfully it is only a few minutes away. DH has the day off tomorrow and is planning to stay up really late playing video games with his friends….I’m going to send him to check again in a few hours.
