Are You Thrifty and Frugal?

by Karen on September 22nd, 2006

I was doing some thinking today and wondered ‘What exactly does it mean to be frugal and thrifty?’.  Naturally, my search led me to dictionary.com.  I thought you all (or ya’ll ;)) also might like to know.  Maybe this will help you to decide if you are indeed thrifty and frugal and possibly encourage you to reconsider your choices.

Thrifty - careful and diligent in the use of resources; mindful of the future in spending money; careful with money; wisely economical

Frugal - avoid waste; thrify, chary, provident, careful; entailing little expense; requiring few resources; meager; scanty

After reading these definitions I decided I was for sure a frugal and thrifty lady.  I learned from the best . . . my mother.  She taught me how to clearance shop, clip coupons, and other countless ways to save money.  We still talk on the phone about the deals we got and how much money we saved.

Be sure to check back regularly at Thrifty Mommy to help encourage and motivate you to be thrifty and frugal.

Now I must go clean spaghetti off of my kids.  :)

I am neither. Which is why we have a fun money allowance. We can do whatever I want with that money every week, but we can’t do anything with the rest of the money that isn’t part of the budget without a little conversation. We’re not quite that strict in reality, but pretty close.

    Mike,
I am glad that you have found something that works for your family. We are trying hard to pay off debt, on a limited income. We have a little more debt left to go and then we’ll be free (well, other than the house, of course).

I’m amazed at how expensive just regular living expenses are. Add the debt to it and it’s hard for a family to make ends meet.

I certainly am looking forward to being debt free!!!! :)
