A sneaky way to save some money at the grocery store
I recently heard Clark Howard say that you can save up to 30% at the grocery store simply by buying store brands. Hum … That makes a lot of sense. The stores also tend to put their store brand on sale before they put the name brands on sale. Something else that you might not think about is where you look. The store will put the most expensive brands and items at either your eye level or your kids’ level. So look lower or higher to find the best deals.
Remember, it’s all about prospective and how they can get your hard earned money. Don’t fall for the tricks they set for you.

While this is all mostly true, there are plenty of gotchas involved which goes back to just being a wise shopper.
Store brands are almost alway (sans sales) cheaper, but that doesn’t always equate to the better value. Same thing with big “bulk size” packages. Check unit prices and compare, sometimes you may not be saving so much as there is something different (smaller size, less weight, etc).
Same thing with the eye level pricing. Yes, certain brands pay stores for premium shelf space and to be at “eye level” but when the sales come around that doesn’t mean they won’t also have sales.
As always, and “educated” consumer makes out the best.
